Cyprus posts 5.2% drop in greenhouse gas emissions in Q3 2025, Eurostat says

Nicosia, Cyprus. Cyprus recorded a 5.2% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions in the third quarter of 2025 compared with the second quarter, according to Eurostat. The decline placed Cyprus among EU countries that achieved notable quarterly decreases.

Cyprus among countries with quarterly declines

Eurostat estimated the largest reduction in Estonia, where emissions fell by 17.4%, followed by Slovenia with a 5.7% drop and Cyprus with a 5.2% decrease. In total, 10 EU countries registered decreases in greenhouse gas emissions.

Emissions and GDP trends across member states

Of the countries that recorded declines in emissions, Eurostat said only Lithuania also posted a decline in GDP. The remaining countries listed were Bulgaria, Estonia, Croatia, Cyprus, Latvia, Lithuania, Portugal, Romania and Slovenia, which reduced or maintained emissions while growing or maintaining GDP levels.

EU-wide emissions and economic activity

Across the EU economy, seasonally adjusted greenhouse gas emissions reached 828 million tonnes of CO2-equivalents in the third quarter of 2025, a 1.1% increase compared with the second quarter. In the second quarter of 2025, emissions were estimated at 819 million tonnes of CO2-equivalents.

Over the same period, the EU’s gross domestic product rose by 0.4% in the third quarter of 2025 compared with the previous quarter. Eurostat said the figures were based on seasonally adjusted quarterly estimates of greenhouse gas emissions by economic activity, released alongside key socio-economic indicators, and are designed to complement data on GDP and employment.
