Cyprus records lowest share of women in managerial roles in EU in 2024, Eurostat says

Nicosia, Cyprus. Cyprus recorded the lowest percentage of women in managerial positions in 2024 at 25.3%, compared with the EU average of 35.2%, Eurostat said on Monday. The EU average rose from 31.8% in 2014.


Age breakdown of women in management

Eurostat said women were more represented among young managers, accounting for 39% of all managers in the 15 to 39 age group, with the share decreasing with age. Women accounted for 34.4% of managers aged 40 to 64 and 26.5% of those aged 65 years and older.

Highest and lowest shares across EU countries

In 2024, the largest share of women in managerial positions was recorded in Sweden at 44.4%, followed by Latvia at 43.4% and Poland at 41.8%. The lowest shares were in Cyprus at 25.3%, Croatia at 27.6% and Italy at 27.9%.

Changes since 2014

Since 2014, 24 EU countries recorded an increase in the share of women in managerial positions. The largest increases were in Luxembourg with +13.7 percentage points, Malta with +10.1 percentage points, and Cyprus with +7.9 percentage points. Decreases were recorded in Slovenia with -3.8 percentage points, Latvia with -0.7 percentage points, and Lithuania with -0.2 percentage points.

Eurostat said the data was part of a series of articles published to mark International Women’s Day, celebrated on March 8.
