Cyprus retail trade turnover rises in February 2026, Cystat reports

Nicosia, Cyprus. The Cyprus Statistical Service (Cystat) reported a year-on-year increase in retail trade turnover in February 2026, indicating continued growth in the sector. Both value and volume indicators of retail activity rose during the month.

Retail turnover value and volume rise

Cystat said the Turnover Value Index of Retail Trade, excluding motor vehicles, increased by 3.3 per cent in February 2026 compared with the same month a year earlier. The Turnover Volume Index of Retail Trade rose by 4.1 per cent year-on-year, indicating higher sales in real terms.

Purpose and composition of the index

Cystat explained that the Turnover Index of Retail Trade is designed to monitor short-term developments in the retail sector and provide insight into market trends. According to the methodology, turnover comprises total invoiced amounts by enterprises during the reference period, reflecting market sales of goods and services.

Tax treatment and data collection

The figures exclude value added tax but include other duties and taxes applied to goods. Cystat said it collects the data monthly through telephone enquiries and email communication with businesses.

Base year and benchmark

Cystat said the index uses 2021 as the base year, with all changes measured against the average monthly turnover of that year. In the base year, the average index level is set at 100 units.

How do the February 2026 retail turnover increases compare with recent monthly trends in Cyprus?
