Nicosia, Cyprus. Cyprus’ foreign ministry said on Sunday that 950 people have been repatriated from the Middle East since the outbreak of the conflict eight days ago. It said most of those repatriated were Cypriot citizens and members of their families.
Repatriations and consular assistance
The ministry said others among those repatriated included permanent residents of Cyprus and citizens of other European Union member states. It added it would continue providing consular assistance to Cypriot citizens affected in countries in the region and beyond, with the aim of returning them to Cyprus.
Registrations in the United Arab Emirates
Last week, the Cyprus Mail reported it had been informed that a little over 2,000 Cypriot nationals in the United Arab Emirates registered their presence through the government’s Connect2CY online platform following the outbreak of the conflict. It said the actual number of Cypriot nationals in the United Arab Emirates was believed to be as high as 6,000, with smaller numbers living in neighbouring countries.
Have you registered your presence with Connect2CY if you are a Cypriot national living abroad?
