Cyprus Shipping Deputy Minister visits London ahead of EU Council Presidency

London, United Kingdom. Cyprus Shipping Deputy Minister Marina Hadjimanolis is in London for a working visit from January 18 to 21 as Cyprus prepares to assume the Presidency of the Council of the European Union.

Bilateral meeting with UK counterpart

During her visit, Hadjimanolis is holding a bilateral meeting with her British counterpart, Keir Mather, the UK Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State responsible for aviation, shipping and decarbonisation.
The discussions focus on strengthening Cyprus–UK relations in shipping and on exchanging views on challenges currently facing global maritime transport.

Meeting with IMO Secretary-General

Hadjimanolis is also scheduled to meet the Secretary-General of the International Maritime Organisation (IMO), Arsenio Dominguez, where she will present the priorities of the Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the EU, among other issues.

Reception at Cyprus High Commission

In parallel, the Deputy Minister is hosting a reception at the High Commission of the Republic of Cyprus in London, marking both Cyprus’ re-election to the Council of the IMO and the assumption of the EU Council Presidency.

Media interview and industry meetings

As part of her programme, Hadjimanolis will give a full-length interview to London Greek Radio (LGR), Europe’s only licensed radio station broadcasting around the clock in Greek and English, aimed at promoting Cypriot shipping.
During her stay, she is also holding a series of meetings with representatives of shipping companies, focusing on strengthening cooperation and further promoting the Cyprus shipping registry.

What do you think Cyprus aims to prioritise in its shipping agenda during the EU Council Presidency?
