Cyprus slightly above EU average in business use of ICT tools for environmental sustainability

Nicosia, Cyprus. Cyprus is slightly above the EU average in the use of digital tools to support environmental sustainability among businesses, according to 2025 data cited by Eurostat.

Cyprus performance compared with EU average

Eurostat’s latest edition of ‘Digitalisation in Europe’ reported that 30.3 per cent of all businesses in the European Union used ICT systems or solutions for environmental purposes in 2025. Cyprus stood at 31.5 per cent, placing it slightly above the EU average.

How businesses use ICT for environmental purposes

The report said Cypriot businesses are increasingly integrating information and communication technologies to reduce energy consumption, limit material use including consumables, and improve recycling practices.

Country comparisons across the European Union

At country level, Belgium led with 42 per cent, followed by Denmark at 40 per cent and Malta at 39 per cent. At the lower end, Bulgaria recorded 13.1 per cent. Greece reported 24.3 per cent.

EU-wide trend

Eurostat said the EU average of 30.3 per cent reflects a steady shift toward greener digital transformation, and places Cyprus broadly aligned with, and slightly ahead of, the bloc’s overall performance.

How do you think businesses in Cyprus could further expand the use of ICT to reduce environmental impact?
