Cyprus stays near EU average for living standards in 2024 and 2025

Nicosia, Cyprus. Cyprus maintained a steady economic position between 2024 and 2025, with Eurostat figures showing the country remained close to the European Union average for living standards. The island recorded actual individual consumption at 98 per cent of the EU average in both years.


Cyprus figures

Data for 2024 placed Cyprus’ gross domestic product per capita at 99 per cent of the European Union average, indicating its relative position in overall economic activity.

The figures are based on the latest purchasing power parities data, which provides a standardised comparison of living conditions across all 27 EU member states.

EU consumption levels

Actual individual consumption per capita, expressed in purchasing power standard, ranged from 73 per cent to 145 per cent of the European Union average in 2025.

Eight member states recorded actual individual consumption above the European Union average. Luxembourg was highest at 45 per cent above the average, followed by Germany at 20 per cent and the Netherlands at 19 per cent.

The remaining 19 member states were below the average. Hungary and Latvia recorded the lowest levels, at 27 per cent below the benchmark, while Estonia stood at 26 per cent below.

GDP per capita across the bloc

For gross domestic product per capita, the 2025 figures showed wider differences across the European Union.

Ten countries recorded gross domestic product per capita above the European Union average.
