Cyprus summer film festivals bring outdoor screenings to cities, beaches and villages

Nicosia, Cyprus. Outdoor cinema screenings are returning across Cyprus this summer, with film festivals and seasonal programmes set to take place in Larnaca, Limassol, Paphos, Protaras and Mandria.

The summer schedule includes free screenings, beach events, independent cinema showcases and regular weekly film nights in museums, art centres and public squares.


Larnaca screenings resume at Pierides Museum

The Larnaca Cinema Society has resumed its summer screenings at the garden of the Pierides Museum, with screenings taking place every Tuesday night.

Upcoming titles include the social comedy Father Mother Sister Brother on June 23 and the Spanish comedy The Best Families on June 30. All films are screened in their original language with Greek subtitles, and admission is free. The screening programme until July 28 is available at www.larnakacinema.com/screenings. Starlit Screens opens by the sea in Limassol

Starlit Screens is launching its third summer programme in Limassol with three screenings at a new location on Parekklisia beach, between Malindi and Grand Resort Hotel.

The programme opens with 500 Days of Summer on Friday, followed by The Florida Project on Saturday and Never on a Sunday on Sunday. The screenings begin at 8.30pm, with the Saturday screening also listed at 10.45pm. The organisers said the movie nights will continue throughout the summer. Paphos festival to host independent cinema

The Paphos International Film Festival will hold its 11th edition from June 26 to 28 at Technopolis 20.

This year’s programme will present a curated selection of 25 short fiction and documentary films from Cyprus and other countries, including Greece, Spain, France, Lebanon, Brazil and Cuba. The organisers said the films will be announced shortly.

Protaras festival returns in July

The Protaras Summer Film Festival will take place from July 8 to 26 on Protaras’ main avenue.

A large programme of blockbuster films for all ages is expected, with a large screen to be set up in the square for multiple screenings on most nights.

Additional screenings planned in Paphos district

Kimonos Art Centre in Paphos will continue its Garden Screenings at Attikon from July 10, with films shown every Wednesday and Friday at 9pm.

In Mandria, the Community Council will organise a seaside film night on July 26 at Mandria beach next to the lifeguards’ tower. The planned screening is Palm Springs, with free entry.
