Nicosia, Cyprus. The Cyprus Symphony Orchestra has announced a February concert series as part of its winter programme, with performances scheduled in Larnaca, downtown Nicosia and Dali. The programme features chamber music, a Cyprus-themed concert, and orchestral works inspired by nature and legend.
Chamber Music 4 opens the month in Larnaca
The February programme begins with Chamber Music 4 on February 1 at Municipal Theatre G. Lycourgos in Larnaca, featuring the CySO Piano Quartet. Concertmaster Wolfgang Schroeder, principal cellist Jakub Otčenašék and principal viola Kumiko Okutomi will perform with pianist Gergana Georgieva.
The concert will contrast the music of Gabriel Faure with works by Johannes Brahms.
Cyprus-themed programme led by Nimrod Borenstein in Nicosia
On February 13, conductor and composer Nimrod Borenstein will lead a programme titled Cyprus, Island of Legends at Pallas Theatre in Nicosia. The concert includes Borenstein’s world premiere Legends of Cyprus, inspired by Cyprus legends.
The programme also features works by Samuel Coleridge, Antonín Dvořák and Franz Schubert, including a score about Rosamunde, a shepherdess who becomes Princess of Cyprus.
Premiere 4 features Peter Gospodinov and conductor Kalle Kuusava
Later in the month, the orchestra will present Premiere 4, with former Cyprus Symphony Orchestra principal cellist Peter Gospodinov, now a solo cellist at the Kuopio Symphony Orchestra in Finland, as the featured soloist. Finnish conductor Kalle Kuusava will lead the performances.
The programme includes works by Charis Sophocleous, Constantin Papageorgio and Carl Maria von Weber. Concerts are scheduled for February 19 at Pallas Theatre in Nicosia and February 20 at Municipal Theatre G. Lycourgos in Larnaca.
Majestic Nature concert closes February in Dali
The orchestra will end its February performances with Orchestra 4all2 – Majestic Nature on February 28 at Panorama Movie Theatre in Dali, Nicosia. Conductor Andreas Asiikkis will lead performances of Smetana’s Vltava, Beethoven’s Pastoral Symphony and Grieg’s Peer Gynt Suites.
