Cyprus Symphony Orchestra brings Starlight 4 concerts to Limassol and Nicosia

Limassol, Cyprus. The Cyprus Symphony Orchestra will present its Starlight 4 concert series in Limassol and Nicosia this week, featuring clarinetist Sharon Kam and conductor, composer and educator Michalis Economou.


Concert dates and venues

The series opens in Limassol on March 18 at the Pattihio Municipal Theatre, before continuing in Nicosia on March 19 at the Strovolos Municipal Theatre. Both concerts start at 8.30pm.

Featured artists

The soloist of the evening is Sharon Kam, described as being praised for expressive warmth, technical brilliance and stage presence. Michalis Economou will lead the orchestra in the programme’s three works.

Programme

The concert begins with Kommos B, Lament for Morton, written in 1996 by Greek composer, conductor and educator Theodore Antoniou. The work is dedicated to the memory of American composer, conductor and pianist Morton Gould and uses the first phrase of a mourning song from Epirus.

Sharon Kam will perform Carl Maria von Weber’s Clarinet Concerto no. 2, written to showcase the clarinet’s expressive range.

The programme concludes with Edward Elgar’s Enigma Variations, with each variation presented as a musical portrait of a close friend.
