Cyprus temperatures to reach 39C as seasonal low-pressure system affects island

Nicosia, Cyprus. A seasonal low-pressure system is affecting Cyprus, bringing mainly fine weather and inland temperatures of up to 39C on Wednesday.

Wednesday forecast

The weather will be mostly clear, with periods of increased cloud initially along the coast and later mainly over the mountains and western areas.

Winds will initially blow south-easterly to south-westerly at force 3 Beaufort, gradually turning south-westerly to north-westerly at force 3 to 4. They may reach force 5 at times along southern coastal areas.

Temperatures are expected to rise to around 39C inland, 31C on the south-western and western coasts, 34C elsewhere along the coast and 30C in the higher mountains.

Overnight conditions

Mostly clear conditions are expected overnight, although low cloud may develop at times along coastal areas.

Patches of mist or fog are likely later in the night and during the early morning, mainly in eastern and inland areas. Winds will become light and mainly downslope at around force 3 Beaufort, while the sea will be calm to slightly rough.

Temperatures are forecast to fall to around 20C inland, 22C along the coast and 18C in the higher mountains.

Outlook

Thursday, Friday and Saturday are expected to be mostly clear, with intervals of increased cloud cover. Isolated showers are possible over mountainous areas on Friday.

Temperatures are not expected to change significantly through Saturday and will remain close to the seasonal average.
