Cyprus to open trade centre in Mumbai in September, president says

Mumbai, India. Cyprus will open a trade centre in Mumbai in September, President Nikos Christodoulides announced at the Cyprus-India business forum on Thursday. The centre is intended to deepen economic and business ties between Cyprus and India.

Trade centre to support business connectivity

Christodoulides said the centre is designed to function as a hub for business connectivity and will assist Indian companies in exploring opportunities in Cyprus and across Europe. He said it will encourage partnerships with Cypriot enterprises and facilitate access to the European Union through what he described as a stable, transparent and fully EU-compliant business environment.

He said he believes the decision will open new avenues for investment, trade and innovation, while reinforcing Cyprus’ position as an entry point for Indian businesses into Europe and the broader region.

Plans outlined at business forum and roundtable

Christodoulides said earlier that the centre’s creation reflects Cyprus’ intention to further enhance economic ties. He later told a roundtable meeting of business leaders that the aim is to build stronger economic and commercial links between Cyprus and India.

He said the Cyprus trade centre will serve as a bridge between business communities by supporting Indian companies seeking opportunities in Cyprus and Europe, facilitating partnerships with Cypriot businesses and enhancing access to the European Union market.

Chamber of commerce highlights Cyprus’ position

Cyprus chamber of commerce and industry (Keve) chairman Stavros Stavrou told the forum that Cyprus is uniquely positioned to act as a strategic gateway for Indian businesses seeking to expand into Europe and the wider region.

Stavrou said trade routes are evolving, supply chains are shifting and investment priorities are changing, with businesses looking for trusted partners and strategic gateways offering stability, connectivity and credibility. He said Cyprus is positioned to fulfil this role as a member of the European Union and the Eurozone, located at the crossroads of Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
