Nicosia, Cyprus. Cyprus is set to begin repatriation flights for nationals in the United Arab Emirates after the outbreak of a conflict in the region, government spokesman Konstantinos Letymbiotis said on Tuesday evening.
Flights scheduled to begin Wednesday
Letymbiotis said charter flights have been launched for the repatriation of Cypriots in the UAE. He added that the necessary arrangements have been completed and that relevant procedures are in progress.
“Flights are scheduled to begin tomorrow,” he said, noting the schedule is subject to regional security conditions.
Registrations and estimated numbers
According to the Cyprus Mail, a little over 2,000 Cypriot nationals in the UAE registered their presence through the government’s Connect2CY online platform following the outbreak of the conflict.
The actual number of Cypriot nationals in the UAE is believed to be as high as 6,000.
