Nicosia, Cyprus. Nationwide turnout reached 32.3 per cent by midday in Cyprus, higher than the 26 per cent recorded at the same point in the 2021 parliamentary elections, according to chief returning officer Elikkos Elia.
Polling stations open normally
The polls at 1,212 polling stations operating in Cyprus as well as in Athens and Thessaloniki temporarily closed at noon and voting resumed at 1 p.m. Elia said polling stations opened without disruption and continued to operate normally throughout the morning, with more than 2,000 police officers deployed.
District turnout figures
Nicosia recorded the highest turnout at 36.1 per cent, followed by Famagusta at 33.7 per cent, Larnaca at 33.2 per cent and Paphos at 32.2 per cent. Limassol stood at 26.5 per cent, while overseas voting was at 19.1 per cent.
In Nicosia, turnout showed the most pronounced increase compared with 2021, when it stood at 23.4 per cent. Limassol remained comparatively lower despite a marginal rise from 25.1 per cent. Famagusta and Larnaca also registered gains compared with previous cycles, tracking closer to presidential election levels than the 2021 baseline.
Overseas voting and reported issues
Voting abroad continued in Brussels, where officials recorded a 20 per cent turnout among 583 registered voters by midday. The polling station covers all six districts of Cyprus and operates under a centralised counting structure.
Elia said the system was functioning without widespread technical issues and that the Digital Citizen platform was operating as expected, with only isolated complaints reported. The election service also reported minor procedural issues, including complaints about SMS messages and social media postings, which are being examined in consultation with the Data protection commissioner.
