Cyta trade unions urge parliament to back bill enabling new services including energy

Nicosia, Cyprus. Cyta trade unions called on parliament to support a finance ministry bill to modernise the organisation and enable it to provide new services, including energy, ahead of discussions set for March 2.

Call for support ahead of March 2 discussions

The trade unions said that failure to pass the bill would limit Cyta’s future prospects and its ability to compete on an equal basis by offering new and viable services. They warned that if parliament does not pass the bill, “society will miss the chance for more, cleaner and cheaper energy options”.

Convergence of telecommunications, energy and technology

The unions said that across Europe telecommunications, energy and technology are converging into a unified strategic ecosystem, and that Cyta must be positioned to meet modern needs of individuals and businesses.

Renewable energy solutions for groups with limited options

According to the trade unions, Cyta aims to provide renewable energy solutions to groups with limited choices, including young couples, families renting, residents of blocks of flats, low-income elderly people and small businesses that cannot install their own photovoltaics.

Consumer choice and green transition

The unions said Cyta’s presence would mean more options for consumers, more green energy in the market, a cleaner environment and strengthened support for the country’s green transition.

How do you think parliament should weigh Cyta’s proposed expansion into energy services when considering the bill?
