Dead dolphin found washed ashore on Pharos promenade in Kato Paphos

Kato Paphos, Cyprus. A dead dolphin was found washed ashore on Friday morning on the Pharos seafront promenade in Kato Paphos. Police and the fisheries department were alerted by passers-by.

Discovery and initial response

Residents spotted the animal during early morning walks and notified authorities. Officers attended the scene shortly afterwards to examine the carcass and secure the area.

Sampling and examination

Fisheries officials collected samples on site for laboratory analysis, as part of standard procedures to determine what led to the dolphin’s death. An official said the priority was to establish the cause through scientific examination and ensure protocols were followed.

Removal and next steps

After the initial inspection, the carcass was removed from the beach and transported to a designated facility for further testing. Authorities said the process was carried out in line with established procedures for marine wildlife incidents, with results expected in the coming days.

What do you think the laboratory analysis will reveal about the cause of the dolphin’s death?
