Nicosia, Cyprus. Diatopos Art Centre will present a new solo exhibition by Paris Sergiou titled “Studiolo,” curated by Daphne Nikita, opening on February 13 and running until March 13.
Exhibition focus
The exhibition features Sergiou’s return to the history of the image, drawing on paintings, photographs and archival material that have shaped perceptions of the figure over time. It approaches history as an active field of learning rather than a past to be reproduced.
Studio process
In the studio, images are removed from their original context and reactivated through drawing and painting. The process is described as seeking displacement rather than revival, using a step backward as a method for moving the image forward, and testing the present and future of painting through an understanding of its origins.
