Nicosia, Cyprus. Direct Democracy is accepting applications for parliamentary aides and staff, party leader Fidias Panayiotou announced on Thursday. The party said it will consider applicants with and without prior political experience, including people who previously worked for parties that did not enter parliament.
Hiring announcement
“We are officially hiring,” Panayiotou said in a short video clip posted online. He said there was “lots of work to be done” and “many job openings” in Direct Democracy.
Selection process
Panayiotou said the party would take people with experience in parliament as well as those with experience in other areas but no background in politics. Speaking in the Cypriot dialect, he said there was no “meso” or connections in Direct Democracy and that the party would hold interviews to hire the best candidates.
He appeared in the video alongside the party’s four MPs.
Election result
In last Sunday’s legislative elections, Direct Democracy, founded seven months ago, won 5.4 per cent of the vote and secured four seats in parliament.
In 2024, Panayiotou, a TikToker with no prior political experience, ran as an independent candidate in the European Parliament election and won 71,000 votes, earning a seat alongside five other Cypriot MEPs.
