Nicosia, Cyprus. Police on Monday arrested a 39-year-old man after a fatal crash in Strovolos last Thursday involving a motorcycle and a car, in which a 15-year-old Syrian boy was killed.
Arrest and investigation
Police said the man, who was driving the car involved in the collision, was arrested under a court warrant to facilitate further investigations into the circumstances of the incident. Investigations are ongoing.
Details of the crash
The accident occurred at around 9.15pm on Ifigenias Avenue in the Strovolos district of Nicosia. Police said the 15-year-old, riding a motorcycle with a 17-year-old pillion passenger, collided with the car driven by the 39-year-old.
The motorcycle then crashed into a parked vehicle, and both teenagers were injured.
Hospitalisation and condition
Both were taken to Nicosia general hospital, where the 15-year-old later died from his injuries. The 17-year-old remains in the intensive care unit in critical condition.
Motorcycle reported stolen
Police said examinations showed the motorcycle had been reported stolen by its owner on March 9.
