Drousiotis and Edek spokesman clash on Alpha TV over allegations of political and judicial cabal

Nicosia, Cyprus. A confrontation erupted on Thursday between Makarios Drousiotis and Edek spokesman Georgios Georgiou on Alpha TV over claims of a clandestine cabal involving political and judicial figures. Georgiou urged Drousiotis to submit his allegations to police without delay and questioned why they were made public weeks before parliamentary elections.

Georgiou calls for immediate police action

Georgiou said the matter “could not go unanswered” and questioned the timing of the public allegations shortly before elections. He said Drousiotis “could have found another way to attract votes,” and accused him of pursuing “pre-election expediencies.”

Georgiou said Drousiotis was leaving serious allegations unresolved, stating that “a month and a half before the elections, he is leaving it open as to whether Edek has rapists, paedophiles, and fraternities in its midst.” He called for immediate investigation by the authorities.

Claims of past positions and demands for device examination

Georgiou alleged Drousiotis had a history of “pro-Turkish approaches,” saying he could have relied on past positions “to get votes for Volt” rather than making what he described as unsubstantiated claims.

He also challenged Drousiotis to hand over all devices for examination, saying any inquiry “will be based on the laws and not on what you or those behind you want.”

Drousiotis rejects accusations and criticises Edek

Drousiotis rejected Georgiou’s accusations and criticised Edek, inviting Georgiou to a public debate. He said, “It is not I who belong to the Rosicrucian’s, nor do I transport ‘black money’ in suitcases,” and dismissed the allegations as defamatory.

What steps should be taken next to address the allegations raised during the broadcast?
