Dual explosions in southern Iran kill four from same family, damage buildings at Gulf port

Bandar Abbas, Iran. Dual explosions struck southern Iran on Saturday, killing four members of the same family and damaging a building at a major Gulf port. Officials denied social media reports that the commander of the Revolutionary Guard’s navy had been targeted.

Blast damages building in Bandar Abbas

The first blast hit an eight-storey building in the port of Bandar Abbas, damaging two floors, several shops, and nearby cars. Iranian media reported that an explosion damaged a residential building in the city, with videos showing heavy damage to several floors.

Tasnim news agency, which is linked to the Guards, said “information on social media according to which a commander of the Revolutionary Guard navy was targeted in the explosion is completely false.”

Firefighters and rescue crews remain at the scene in Bandar Abbas as investigations continue.

Second explosion in Ahvaz kills family

A second explosion in the southern city of Ahvaz destroyed a four-storey residential building in the Kianshahr neighbourhood.

Babak Rabiei, head of Ahvaz Fire and Safety Services, told ISNA news agency the blast killed a father, mother and their two children. Rescue teams pulled a woman and a three-year-old child alive from the rubble.
