Nicosia, Cyprus. The Ecologists movement on Tuesday called for an investigation into reports of cats being shot in a residential area of Lakatamia.
The movement said three cats had been shot in the same yard in recent years, with two killed and one surviving after surgery.
Calls for investigation
The movement said the incidents constituted animal abuse and posed a serious threat to public safety because a firearm or hunting rifle was allegedly used in a residential area.
It said no substantive investigation had been carried out despite multiple complaints to the authorities.
Requested measures
The Ecologists movement called for a full investigation into the allegations, activation of the animal police unit, preventive and surveillance measures, and enforcement of relevant legislation.
It said the measures were necessary to protect animal welfare and the safety of residents.
