Eight killed, including baby, in bus crash and fire in western Turkey

Denizli, Turkey. An intercity passenger bus crashed and caught fire in western Turkey in the early hours of Sunday, killing eight people, including a nine-month-old baby, local media reported. Thirty-three other passengers were injured.

Crash

The accident happened at 1:40 a.m. local time in Denizli province, where a Pamukkale Tourism bus travelling from Izmir to Antalya hit motorway guardrails before bursting into flames.

Victims and passengers

The bus was carrying 41 people, including 38 passengers and three crew members. Those killed included the 50-year-old driver, the baby’s father and the infant.

Scene and timing

Images from the scene showed the bus as a burnt-out shell on the side of the road.

The incident took place on the final day of Eid al-Adha, when roads across Turkey are typically busier as people travel to visit relatives or go on holiday, often leading to an increase in traffic accidents.
