Nicosia, Cyprus. Elam has taken the chairmanship of three of the 16 parliamentary standing committees, including the House defence committee, following the allocation of committee chairmanships on Friday. The party also gained the right to choose the chairmen of the transport and environment committees.
Committee allocations
Elam will select the chairmen of the defence, transport, and environment committees. The parties which had held the rights to those three committees lost all their seats in parliament at last month’s election.
Previous chairmanships
Previously, the defence committee had been chaired by Edek, the transport committee by Dipa, and the environment committee by the Ecologists’ Movement.
Disy and Akel retain five each
Disy and Akel each took the chairmanship of five committees. Disy retained control of the foreign affairs, energy, legal, health, and institutions committees, all of which it also held throughout the last parliament.
Akel also retained control of the five committees it chaired during the last parliament: the interior, agriculture, labour, human rights, and refugee committees.
Diko retains three committees
Diko will chair the finance, education, and audit committees, as it did throughout the course of the last parliament.
