The Trade Committee was presented with legislative initiative to introduce competition to the internal energy market. Now, it will be examined and voted for at the plenary session, which is set for 14th of February.
The chairman of the committee Angelos Votsis said that the initiative will be in force during the transitional period, when private producers of electricity (mainly from renewable sources) will come out to the market on the basis of the monthly contracts.
Votsis also added that the transitional period is expected to end in 2019 and this decision will surely reduce prices for electricity for that period.
