VRT said the explosion occurred around 4 a.m. local time (0300 GMT). The blast blew out the synagogue’s windows, as well as those of a building on the opposite side of the road, according to the broadcaster.

Liege’s mayor, Willy Demeyer, described the incident as an “extremely violent act of antisemitism” in comments to RTBF.
