FAA halts all flights at El Paso International Airport citing special security reasons

El Paso, United States. The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration said all flights to and from El Paso International Airport have been halted for “special security reasons.” The airport confirmed that all incoming and outgoing flights were grounded.

Flight halt and duration

The FAA said the temporary restrictions would remain in place until February 21. The agency did not specify the nature of the “security reasons.”

Airport confirmation

El Paso International Airport, which borders Mexico, confirmed the development in an Instagram post stating that all flights to and from the airport were grounded.

Unusual scope and designation

Aviation observers said a restriction of this length and scale—closing an international airport and surrounding airspace—is unusual outside of major security events. The FAA’s “national defense airspace” designation implies involvement of the Department of Defense or other national security agencies, though no official confirmation has been made publicly available.

What impact could the temporary flight restrictions have on your travel plans through El Paso?
