Ayia Napa, Cyprus. A family of four could spend about €120 on a day at an organised beach in Cyprus, with higher equipment fees, food and drink prices, and travel costs adding to household expenses.
The estimate, based on prices reported by Politis, includes two sunbeds, one umbrella, meals and drinks for two adults and two children, two coffees and petrol for a return journey.
Beach equipment charges
Recently approved price increases put the cost of sunbeds at organised beaches at €3.50 each and umbrellas at €3. A family using two sunbeds and one umbrella would therefore spend €10 before ordering food or drinks.
A third sunbed would increase the equipment charge further.
Food and drink prices
Beach-bar prices account for most of the estimated daily spending. Indicative prices along the Ayia Napa coastline place burgers with chips between €11 and €14, fish and chips at up to €15, and club sandwiches or similar snacks at around €9.
Soft drinks cost around €3, while fresh juice and freddo cappuccino are priced at about €5. Small bottles of water cost at least €1, and ice creams start at about €3.
Two full meals for adults, two cheaper options for children, drinks and ice creams can cost more than €80. Adding two afternoon coffees can bring the food and drink bill close to €90.
Travel costs
For households outside the main coastal areas, petrol can add a further €10 to €12 each way for journeys of between 80 and 100 kilometres, depending on the vehicle.
At an average unleaded fuel price of around €1.46 per litre, the return journey can add up to €24, bringing the total estimated cost of the beach outing to roughly €120. Additional purchases, including beer, cocktails, snacks or another round of ice creams, could raise the total to between €140 and €150.
