Fire destroys former Corner Pub building opposite presidential palace

Nicosia, Cyprus. A fire broke out at the former Corner Pub building opposite the presidential palace on Wednesday, prompting an emergency response. The historic building was completely destroyed and its roof collapsed, according to fire brigade spokesman Andreas Kettis.

Kettis said in a social media post that the building had been “completely burnt” and that the roof had “entirely collapsed”.

The fire brigade remained at the scene, while authorities had not released further details about the cause of the fire at the time of publication.

City landmark

The former Corner Pub had long been a familiar landmark in the capital because of its prominent location opposite the presidential palace and its role as a Manchester United fans’ club.
