Fidias Panayiotou calls for greater public role in Cyprus problem discussions

Nicosia, Cyprus. Direct Democracy Cyprus leader Fidias Panayiotou called on Monday for greater public participation and transparency in deliberations on the Cyprus problem after attending a National Council meeting.

He said the public should be informed about discussions and convergences, particularly if the Cyprus problem is put to a referendum in the future.

Public information and consultation

Panayiotou said details of convergences and other matters discussed by the National Council should be made public so that citizens know what is being considered.

He said public involvement was necessary because a future referendum could produce any outcome if citizens were not adequately informed.

Mobile application proposals

Panayiotou said Direct Democracy Cyprus intends to inform the public about discussions concerning a bizonal, bicommunal federation.

He added that the party was considering placing resolutions on certain convergences in its mobile application, allowing users to state whether they accept them. He said the party would focus on information and transparency regarding discussions on the Cyprus problem.
