Film Festival on Diversity returns to Cyprus with free screenings and discussions from May 8-15

Nicosia, Cyprus. The Centre for Social Innovation will present the fifth edition of the Film Festival on Diversity from May 8 to 15, offering a week of free film screenings and cinematic discussions. The festival will take place across venues in central Nicosia, Lympia and Larnaca.


Festival focus and auspices

The festival aims to promote diversity, inclusion and intercultural dialogue through cinema and cultural exchange. It is held under the auspices of the Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the European Union, Nicosia municipality, the EU National Institutes for Culture, the Children’s Rights Commissioner and the Cyprus Diversity Charter.

Opening event and partners

The opening day will be held at ARTos House in Nicosia at 7.30pm with a screening of I Fonissa, directed by Eva Nathena, Greece’s official submission to the Academy Awards. Ambassadors are expected to attend each night, with festival partners including the embassies of Greece, Spain, France and Sweden, the Indian High Commission, the Ukrainian Cultural Centre Obiimy, and the organisations RESET and MITRA. The Limassol International Book Fair is also supporting the festival.

Screening programme

The programme includes Dangal by Nitesh Tiwari on May 9; Campeones by Javier Fesser on May 10; Fanon by Jean-Claude Barny on May 11; Pause by Tonia Misiali on May 12; Cuba and Alaska by Yegor Troyanovsky on May 13; Tug of War by Amil Shivji on May 14; and Our Bread by Oleksandra Fogh.

Discussions and additional events

Some screenings will be accompanied by discussions with directors, along with wines, buffets and welcome speeches by ambassadors. The final event will include a workshop introducing different types of bread from around the world.

Venues and access

Screenings will be held at ARTos House, the Eleftheria Square Amphitheatre, The Cyprus Institute, Kaskanter bar, the Ukrainian Cultural Centre Obiimy in Larnaca, and CSI’s terrace in Nicosia. Admission to all screenings and events is free, with prior online reservation, with further information available at www.ffdcyprus.com.
