Latsia, Cyprus. Authorities are investigating the cause of a fire that broke out in an apartment building on Friday night, prompting the evacuation of residents and the deployment of emergency services.
Fire breaks out in second-floor apartment
Police said the fire started at around 8.50pm in a second-floor apartment in the Nicosia suburb. Firefighters and police officers responded after reports of smoke and flames coming from the residential building.
Evacuation and response conditions
Residents were evacuated as a precaution while firefighters worked to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading to neighbouring properties. Police said firefighters faced difficulties due to strong winds in the area.
No injuries reported
The occupants of the apartment, a 36-year-old woman and her six-year-old child, were not inside when the fire started, and no other injuries were reported.
Investigation ongoing
The fire was brought under control and extinguished early on Saturday morning. Police said the area has been cordoned off to allow examinations by the competent authorities, as investigators work to determine the circumstances and cause of the fire.
