Arsos, Cyprus. Firefighters are battling a wildfire near the Limassol village after flames from a rubbish dump fire spread through dry grass. No injuries had been reported at the time of writing.
Firefighting response
Fire brigade spokesman Andreas Kettis said the blaze spread rapidly, prompting the mobilisation of ground and aerial firefighting resources.
Five fire engines were deployed, along with six vehicles from the forestry department. Two additional fire engines were en route to reinforce the operation.
Four firefighting aircraft were carrying out water drops.
Coordination efforts
Kettis said the chief fire officer and the head of the operations centre were at fire service headquarters, coordinating the response with the incident commander.
Emergency services continued efforts to contain the fire.
