Nicosia, Cyprus. More than 390,000 foreigners visited the north during January and February this year, mostly from Turkey, according to Turkish Cypriot newspaper Kibris.
Total visitors and origin breakdown
Kibris reported that 390,516 foreign visitors travelled to the north in the first two months of the year, with 345,847 from Turkey and 44,669 from other countries.
Increase in German visitors
The report said the number of German tourists rose by 74.9 per cent compared with a year earlier, with 4,817 Germans visiting in January and February.
Decline in Iranian visitors
Iranian visitors fell by 28.8 per cent, according to the report, dropping from 4,752 to 3,385.
Other nationalities
After Germans, the largest group of visitors was from Pakistan, with 2,704 arrivals, a rise of 38 per cent over the same period last year. Israeli visitors increased from 1,360 to 1,676, up 23.2 per cent.
Arrivals by sea and air
According to the ‘ministry of tourism’, 460,031 arrived by sea and air, with the majority Turkish.
