Brisbane, Australia. A former Brisbane general practitioner of Cypriot descent has been charged with 94 counts of rape and 54 counts of sexual assault against 15 patients, police say. Stellios “Stan” Theodoros, 74, of Highgate Hill, is due to appear at Brisbane Magistrates Court on June 23.
Police allegations and investigation
Police allege that from the early 2000s to 2015 Theodoros sexually assaulted 15 women aged from their late teens to their forties while working as a GP at a medical centre in Tarragindi.
The Upper Mount Gravatt Criminal Investigation Branch launched Operation Xray Cariyna in August 2025 after multiple women made complaints to police.
Employment history
Theodoros worked at Wellers Hill Medical Centre until his retirement in 2021, and was removed as a company director of the centre last year.
Appeal for information
Detective Senior Sergeant Denis Silk called on anyone with information about the case to contact the Upper Mount Gravatt Criminal Investigation Branch directly or anonymously through Crime Stoppers, saying investigations remain ongoing.
Former patient reaction
One former patient who made a complaint told ABC News the charges were “a long time coming,” and said it was a relief that charges had been laid.
QCAT findings and medical licence status
Theodoros had already been permanently banned from applying for a new medical licence. The Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal found he had conducted examinations of female patients not out of medical necessity but with a sexual motive.
The tribunal found he had followed a repeated pattern of improper conduct over a number of years against at least seven women, carrying out excessive and unjustified cervical smear tests, breast examinations and vaginal examinations without medical indication.
QCAT described his conduct as particularly serious, finding that it far exceeded the bounds of normal clinical practice and that many of his actions appeared to be driven by the pursuit of sexual gratification.
