Nicosia, Cyprus. Four people were arrested on Thursday night and 79 motorists were reported for speeding during islandwide police operations aimed at preventing serious crime and enhancing public safety.
Police said the coordinated patrols targeted key urban locations to prevent criminal activity, maintain public order and increase the public’s sense of security.
Arrests and inspections
The four arrests involved various offences, including illegal possession of drugs and drink driving.
Officers stopped 615 vehicles and checked 785 drivers and passengers during the operation. They also inspected 59 premises, resulting in 12 reports for various offences.
Traffic enforcement
Traffic officers issued 359 citations for road traffic offences, including 79 for speeding.
Police conducted 82 breathalyser tests, with four drivers testing positive for alcohol. Two roadside drug tests were carried out, both with negative results.
Ten vehicles were impounded as part of the operation.
Continued operations
Police said crime prevention operations would continue daily, with an increased street presence, targeted checks and rapid operational responses aimed at protecting the public and maintaining public order.
