Greece says it will not take part in military operations in the Strait of Hormuz

Athens, Greece. Greece will not engage in any military operations in the Strait of Hormuz, government spokesman Pavlos Marinakis said on Monday. He said Greece would only participate in the EU’s naval mission “Aspides” to protect ships in the Red Sea.

Greek position on Hormuz and EU mission

Marinakis made the comments at a press conference, saying Greece would only take part in the EU naval mission “Aspides,” which is tasked with protecting ships in the Red Sea.

U.S. talks with countries on Strait of Hormuz security

U.S. President Donald Trump said on Sunday his administration was talking to seven countries about helping to secure the Strait of Hormuz amid the U.S.-Israeli war on Iran. He called on them to help protect ships in the waterway, which he said Tehran has mostly blocked to oil tanker traffic.

How do you think Greece’s decision to limit its participation to the EU mission “Aspides” could affect regional maritime security?
