Nicosia, Cyprus. Building safety issues at Athalassa hospital were discussed at a meeting chaired on Monday by Health Minister Neophytos Charalambides. The minister ordered the immediate implementation of measures to ensure the safety of patients and staff.
Structural concerns and action plan
Charalambides was briefed in detail on serious structural concerns at the hospital, as set out in the findings of a recent study. The state health services (Okypy) presented its action plan for addressing the situation.
Immediate measures ordered
The minister issued instructions for the immediate implementation of all necessary measures to ensure the safety of patients and staff.
Second phase of construction to begin
The meeting also decided to begin procedures for the second phase of construction of the new Athalassa hospital, which the ministry said is intended to resolve the facility’s chronic structural problems “definitively and sustainably.”
