Larnaca, Cyprus. A police officer was headbutted by a 27-year-old inmate from the Menoyia detention centre who had been taken to Larnaca General Hospital, police spokesman Spyros Chrysostomou said on Saturday.
Incident at hospital
Chrysostomou said the inmate had been taken to the hospital for examinations. After the examinations were concluded, the police officer attempted to handcuff the man and was headbutted.
Officer’s injuries
Chrysostomou said the officer’s colleagues rushed to help and the man was eventually handcuffed. The officer was examined on the spot by a doctor and was found to have a wound on his right eyebrow and contusions to his right hand.
Investigation ongoing
The man was taken back to the Menoyia detention centre, while the police investigation into the matter is ongoing.
