Bandar-e-Mahshahr, Iran. The Israeli air force struck the Karun petrochemical plant near the southwestern Iranian city of Bandar-e-Mahshahr on Monday, damaging parts of the facility and prompting the evacuation of the surrounding Mahshahr Special Petrochemical Economic Zone, according to Iranian state media and officials. The Israeli military said its air force had struck several targets at the petrochemical complex.
Officials confirm strike
The deputy governor for security of Khuzestan province confirmed the plant had been hit by an Israeli projectile, Fars news agency reported.
Damage and evacuation
Iranian state media and officials said parts of the Karun petrochemical plant were damaged in the strike and that the surrounding Mahshahr Special Petrochemical Economic Zone was evacuated.
