July temperatures moderate overall despite 11 days above 43C in Nicosia

Nicosia, Cyprus. July was generally moderate in temperature, despite 11 days when temperatures exceeded 43C in Nicosia, the meteorological department said on Thursday. The department said the month was not a record month.

Temperature readings

The highest temperature, 43.2C, was recorded at the Athalassa station in Nicosia on July 23. The station’s average temperature for the month was 38.6C.

Polis Chrysochous recorded the second-highest average temperature, at 34.6C, while its maximum temperature was 38.5C on July 23.

Larnaca airport station recorded the third-highest average temperature, at 34C, and a maximum of 38.2C on July 30.

Minimum temperatures

Prodromos recorded the highest minimum temperature figures, with a maximum of 21.7C and a minimum of 12.9C, producing a July average of 18.2C.

Polis Chrysochous recorded a lowest average temperature of 22.8C, with a high of 25.3C and a low of 20.4C.

Historical rankings

The Larnaca and Athalassa stations recorded their ninth-highest mean maximum temperatures since 1976 and 1983 respectively.

Prodromos recorded its 27th-highest mean maximum temperature since 1959, reaching a peak of 28.2C.
