Justice Minister says allegations by Annie Alexui must be investigated through formal channels

Nicosia, Cyprus. Justice Minister Costas Fitiris said developments are underway regarding allegations made publicly by Annie Alexui, stressing that any investigation must proceed through formal channels rather than social media.

Minister outlines institutional process

Speaking on CyBC on Wednesday, Fitiris said authorities intend to gather information “in an institutional manner” about claims Alexui raised online. He said some actions were already being taken, but that the case could not be substantiated through social media.

Fitiris said there must be testimonies and statements, adding that the investigation concerns the police and will be forwarded to the legal service. Asked who would be responsible for examining Alexui’s complaints, he said the matter would be determined in consultation with the legal service.

He underlined that institutions could not receive evidence or statements through public platforms, and said more information would be available soon, but through institutional means and not through social networks.

Alexui’s public appeal and allegations

The comments followed appeals made by Alexui on Tuesday in which she called on the justice minister to contact her directly. She claimed she possessed video recordings and other material alleging corruption, misconduct and cover-ups within the police.

In a video posted online, Alexui said she was prepared to provide recordings of conversations with police officers, saying she would send video recordings of conversations with police officers she had encountered and their behaviour in cases of cover-up and of murder.

What do you think about the minister’s insistence that evidence and statements be submitted only through formal channels?
