Nicosia, Cyprus. Justice Minister Costas Fitiris said efforts to cleanse the police are progressing alongside measures to improve operational effectiveness in tackling crime. His remarks followed the arrest of two police officers for alleged assault.

Fitiris spoke after the recent arrest of two officers, one in Larnaca and a special officer in Paphos, both for alleged assault, with the latter incident occurring while the officer was off duty. The Justice Ministry confirmed that both cases are under thorough investigation.

Fitiris said the state is committed to reinforcing discipline and accountability while improving the operational effectiveness of police in the fight against crime. He said actions that do not align with the police corps’ principles and mission are not accepted and are dealt with according to the law.
