Kinisis Ventures invests in Phase3D in $2 million seed financing round

Chicago, United States. Kinisis Ventures has announced a strategic investment in Phase3D as part of a $2 million seed financing round for the Chicago-based company developing real-time quality assurance technology for 3D metal printing.

Seed round participants

The round was carried out alongside New York Angels and other investors, including Quest Venture Partners and DMG Mori, strengthening Phase3D’s position in the industrial additive manufacturing sector.

Quality assurance technology

Phase3D has developed Fringe Inspection™, a proprietary technology intended to provide a universal quality assurance solution for the metal additive manufacturing industry. The system uses high-resolution, camera-based sensing to provide physics-based measurements rather than relying solely on AI-based methods.

Applications and testing aims

The company said this approach is particularly important for sectors such as aerospace and defence, where certification requirements are strict and post-build testing can be expensive and time-consuming. Phase3D’s technology aims to reduce the time and cost involved in testing and part qualification by providing real-time quality assurance during the printing process.

Grants and validation

Phase3D’s technology has been validated through $3.5 million in non-dilutive grants from the US Air Force, NASA and the US Navy.

Commercial track record

Between 2023 and 2025, Phase3D generated $4 million in total revenue and secured more than 25 paying deployments with customers including Boeing, GE Aerospace, Lockheed Martin and NASA.

Kinisis Ventures focus and executive comments

Kinisis Ventures said the investment reflects its focus on companies that combine proprietary hardware with intelligent software to address complex industrial and scientific challenges, citing other portfolio companies including Autonomics and Embio Diagnostics.

Kinisis Ventures co-founder Andreas Panayi said, “Investing in Phase3D through our New York Angels affiliation is a natural evolution for Kinisis Ventures.” He added that it allows the firm to deepen its US sourcing capabilities while adding industrial AI and additive manufacturing expertise to its portfolio, and that participating in US deals as a Cypriot VC helps demonstrate that Cyprus is an active and sophisticated player in the global venture ecosystem.
