Paris, France. A man armed with a knife tried to attack a police officer near the Arc de Triomphe on Friday and was shot by a second officer to subdue him, according to Paris police and the mayor for Paris’ 8th district.
Incident near the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier
Paris police said the man was taken to the hospital in critical condition. The police officer who was targeted was not harmed, and no one else was wounded.
Police said the attack occurred near the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier while officers were rekindling the flame.
Inquiry opened by anti-terrorism prosecutors
The French anti-terrorism prosecutor’s office said it was aware of the situation and had opened an inquiry into the incident.
