Nicosia, Cyprus. Cyprus Foreign Minister Constantinos Kombos said he held a “substantive discussion” with UAE Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan on regional developments, according to a post on X on Friday. Kombos reiterated Cyprus’ solidarity with the UAE and Gulf partners amid what he described as indiscriminate and unjustifiable attacks.
Discussion on strategic partnership
Kombos said the ministers discussed the strategic partnership between Cyprus and the UAE and ways to enhance cooperation in areas of common interest, including the economy, investment and trade.
Calls for diplomacy and dialogue
“Diplomacy and dialogue are the only viable path to de-escalation and stability,” Kombos said.
Repercussions of missile attacks
The ministers addressed the repercussions of what Kombos described as “Iran’s unprovoked and terrorist missile attacks” targeting the UAE and a number of “brotherly and friendly countries.”
UAE expresses solidarity and highlights EU cooperation
Bin Zayed Al Nahyan reaffirmed the UAE’s “full solidarity with the Republic of Cyprus” and highlighted strong bilateral ties, Kombos said. He also said the UAE aimed to expand cooperation with Cyprus and highlighted cooperation with the European Union, where Cyprus is currently holding the presidency.
