Nicosia, Cyprus. Deputy Minister of Tourism Kostas Koumis said tourism revenue figures for May and the first five months of 2026 confirmed that Cyprus tourism had returned to a stable recovery path.
In a written statement to the Cyprus News Agency following the release of Statistical Service data, Koumis said the government had focused on maintaining the island’s reputation, flight capacity and organised travel programmes.
May revenue figures
Koumis said the 4.8 per cent decline in tourism revenue in May compared with 2025 was not excessive. Compared with May 2024, tourism revenue increased by 14.4 per cent.
He said the statistical data showed that the sector was on a stable path and that coordinated government actions, undertaken in cooperation with the tourism industry, had had a positive impact.
Five-month trend
For the January-May period, tourism revenue was 16.5 per cent lower than in the corresponding period of the previous year, Koumis said.
He said the overall revenue picture improved by 7.4 percentage points compared with the first four months of the year, while the decline had stood at 23.9 per cent in the previous month.
Revenue for the first five months of 2026 was 6.3 per cent higher than in the same period of 2024, he added.
Government priorities
Koumis said the tourism sector had faced an unprecedented and difficult situation in recent months, marked by uncertainty.
He said the government’s priority was to preserve Cyprus’ strong reputation as a destination by investing in all aspects of safety. The Deputy Ministry of Tourism also aimed to maintain flight capacity and organised travel programmes to Cyprus while limiting potential losses.
