Kourion municipality advances Kokkinokampos industrial zone plans, seeks updated expropriation lists

Limassol, Cyprus. Kourion municipality is accelerating plans for a new industrial area in Kokkinokampos with direct access to the Limassol–Saittas motorway to meet growing storage and light industry needs in the wider Limassol district.

Project location and scope

The local authority is spearheading the development of a fully organised industrial zone in Kokkinokampos. The site is east of the Third Industrial Zone of Ypsonas, south of the former landfill site in Vati and west of the Ypsonas–Polemidia livestock farming zone.

Studies and approvals

Mayor Pantelis Georgiou said the municipality has sent written notification to the Ministry of Commerce and Industry confirming that all required studies for the project have been completed. He added that approvals from the competent government departments have also been secured.

Expropriation process and next steps

The municipality has called on the ministry to proceed with what it described as the most critical stage, the expropriation process required for implementation. Georgiou said the municipality received a reply from the ministry enclosing expropriation lists prepared in 2022, when the procedure to establish the industrial area first began.

He said the next step will be to examine how the expropriations should be amended, after which the ministry will send a letter to the Department of Lands and Surveys to update the lists so new versions can be issued. Georgiou said once the updated lists are approved, the ministry will proceed with the relevant procedures, enabling the municipality to begin the project on the ground.

How do you expect the proposed industrial zone in Kokkinokampos to affect businesses in the wider Limassol district?
