Nicosia, Cyprus. The final investment decision for the Kronos natural gas field in block 6 of Cyprus’ exclusive economic zone could support further offshore gas development and help assess supplies for domestic demand, energy expert Charles Ellinas said. Separately, Bird Aviation announced a seven-year aircraft maintenance agreement with easyJet at its Larnaca facilities.
Kronos development
Ellinas told the Cyprus News Agency that the decision by the Eni and TotalEnergies consortium marked an important step after 15 years towards the export of Cypriot natural gas.
He said annual production from the Kronos field is expected to reach about five billion cubic metres, with around four billion cubic metres mainly intended for European markets.
Europe imports about 300 billion cubic metres of natural gas annually, meaning Kronos would make a limited contribution rather than resolve Europe’s supply needs, Ellinas said.
easyJet maintenance agreement
Bird Aviation said on Wednesday it had signed a long-term agreement with low-cost carrier easyJet to provide scheduled aircraft maintenance services in Larnaca.
The agreement has an initial term of seven years and includes an option for a further three-year extension, according to the company.
It covers two maintenance lines dedicated to scheduled heavy maintenance checks on easyJet Airbus A320 family aircraft, with all work to be undertaken at Bird Aviation’s Cyprus facilities.
Bird Aviation said the agreement builds on its existing relationship with easyJet and provides a stable basis for continued heavy maintenance services, reinforcing the role of its Larnaca facilities in the airline’s fleet maintenance programme.
