Nicosia, Cyprus. The Labour Inspection Department has ordered the suspension of moderate and heavy labour on Wednesday from midday until 4pm due to extreme heat.
Areas and activities affected
The measure applies to areas located at altitudes below 300 metres above sea level and more than 10 kilometres from the coast.
Deliveries by bicycle, electric scooter, moped and motorcycle, including food and mail deliveries, must also be suspended until the afternoon.
Guidance for employers
For less strenuous work and work carried out in other areas, employers and self-employed workers are advised to monitor temperature and humidity conditions.
They are also advised to adjust working hours where necessary and provide rest breaks in shaded or cool areas.
